Alides makes its sustainability strategy tangible in new ESG Report

Ghent, 11 June 2025 – With its third sustainability report, real estate investor and developer Alides reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustainability. In 2024, sustainability has transcended mere ambition, becoming a tangible reality. By measuring, adjusting, and placing redevelopment at the heart of its activities, the company is steadfastly advancing on its sustainability journey: from a vision to actual impact.

‘Sustainability is now embedded not only in our strategy but in our daily decisions,’ says Kelly Moerman, Sustainability Manager at Alides. ‘This report shows where we are already making a difference and where we aim to go further. Sustainability must be tangible, measurable, and integrated into every part of the organisation. It’s not about the report itself, but about the actions it drives.’

Real Estate Upcycling as a foundation for sustainable growth

A central theme in the report is Real Estate Upcycling – the redevelopment of existing buildings while preserving as much of the original structure as possible, focusing on material recovery and minimising CO₂ impact. Alides is now applying this approach in nearly one-third of its projects and aims to increase that share to at least 35% by 2025.

This strategy combines ecological gains with an economic logic. By transforming buildings at the right moment in their lifecycle, Alides not only reduces embodied carbon but also extends the lifespan of urban locations. Instead of developing on greenfield sites, the company now primarily includes upcycling projects and densification developments in its pipeline.

From a strategic plan to an embedded practice

The report illustrates how ESG has evolved beyond the confines of a strategic plan. Today, sustainability and social value are integrated throughout the organisation. Employees are receiving training, setting personal goals, and contributing their expertise to investment decisions. This report and the actions it outlines are the result of a broad team effort. We sincerely thank all colleagues who have contributed, on any scale, to this process.

In terms of reporting, Alides also prioritises transparency. Despite being (temporarily) exempt from the CSRD reporting obligation, the company continues to report voluntarily, thereby including a double materiality analysis and clear KPIs.

‘In coming years, we will keep measuring, learning, and adjusting,’ says Kelly Moerman. ‘Sustainability is not a side activity – it’s embedded in every phase of our operations, from design and execution to long-term management.’
