A new sustainable residential neighborhood will be built on the old Gantoise site in Gentbrugge. A design proposal has now been made for the section on the site of the former Otten Stadium. The plan includes 150 homes with private gardens or terraces, a large neighborhood park, communal gardens, and space for community facilities.

The future sustainable residential neighborhood on the old Gantoise site will comprise approximately 287 homes with a large neighborhood park at its center. Construction has already begun on the section where the tennis and hockey club used to be, which is being developed by Project De Stip. The section where the Otten Stadium was formerly located is being developed by city development company sogent in partnership with ION and Alides. A design proposal has now been completed for this section.
“On these sogent-owned lands, we’ve placed strong emphasis on affordable housing: 20 percent of these homes will be social rental housing and 20 percent budget rental housing. Additionally, the neighborhood will be enhanced with a full-fledged park and space for community functions. A wonderful project!” – Joris Vandenbroucke, Alderman for Urban Development

Spread across various buildings, there will be 150 homes, with 40 percent designated for social and budget rentals. The development includes a mix of traditional homes, multi-family dwellings, and apartments, each with its own garden or terrace. Furthermore, there will be a large neighborhood park with nods to the site’s sporting past. The plan also includes communal gardens and space for community facilities such as a café/restaurant, a coworking space and a childcare center.
“This project focuses on sustainability, community building, and addressing diverse housing needs through varied housing options. We’re creating a vibrant neighborhood that will positively contribute to the development of Gentbrugge.” – Rikkert Leeman, CEO of Alides

Sustainability is central to the design proposal. The roofs will be equipped with solar panels, a BEO field (borehole energy storage) will be installed, and special attention will be given to water features and green facades. Cars will be directed to underground parking via Bruiloftstraat. There is additional focus on smooth connections with public transport, bicycle use, and car sharing.
“Thanks to our broad expertise and strong collaborations, Alides and ION consistently succeed in delivering high-quality projects. We share the same vision, resulting in sustainable, innovative, and inspiring neighborhoods that are wonderful places to live.” – Kristof Vanfleteren, CEO of ION
Information session for Local Residents
According to the current planning schedule, environmental permits will be applied for in 2026 and 2027. Construction would begin in 2028. Local residents can view the plans and design during an information session at Atheneum Gentbrugge on Tuesday, March 25, from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
The collaboration is the result of a design competition. Sogent awarded the contract to the team of ION and Alides, which assembled a design team with Areal Architecten, Denc-studio, and BLAF Architecten.
