Evere, 30 June 2025 – Real estate investor and developer Alides announces a major milestone in the Artico residential project in Evere. The site reached its highest point this month with the completion of the roof slab on the fifth level. This signifies that the shell of the main building is now almost complete.
Artico is taking shape on a historic site along Avenue du Cimetière de Bruxelles and will soon be home to 21 sustainable apartments. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2026.
“Reaching the highest point is a key milestone in any construction project,” says Jan Pelckmans, Project Manager at contractor VDS Peremans. “From here, we move on to sealing the building against wind and water and begin the technical installations. We are fully on track for delivery.”
Heritage Architecture
Artico stands out not only for its focus on sustainability and its central location but also for its distinctive heritage architecture. The site reinterprets the former municipal services building – a 1935 structure designed by architect François Malfait – into a contemporary residential space. The new upper floors reinterpret the existing building’s architecture, creating a harmonious whole. The façade of the original building will be preserved and restored, including the red brick, blue natural stone, and canopies.
The characterful original window divisions will be replicated to maintain the building’s individuality while also meeting current sustainability standards. The new construction on the upper floors revisits the original architecture, resulting in a harmonious integration of old and new.
“Work on Artico is progressing as planned and through close collaboration with all partners on-site,” says Jan Van Melckebeke, Construction Manager at Alides. “Completing the structural shell marks an important milestone. We look forward to starting the next phase after the summer.”
The completion of the structural framework was symbolically marked with a traditional topping-out ceremony, organised by contractor VDS Peremans in conjunction with Alides and other involved parties. The main building’s completion is scheduled to begin after the summer, followed by the construction of the underground car park at the rear of the site.
